Finance Manager

Garnett Powell Maximon Barlow & Farbes is seeking a full-time Finance Manager to join our growing law firm. Position Overview:

The Finance Manager will work closely with firm leadership to oversee all financial operations, including bookkeeping and legal billing. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with significant experience in QuickBooks and familiarity with legal billing practices and software.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including advanced client costs, settlement statements, and trust account management.
  • Prepare regular financial reports and spreadsheets for firm partners.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, including COLTAF/trust account requirements.
  • Serve as firm’s bookkeeper, handling daily accounting tasks with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in QuickBooks.
  • Manage the firm’s general ledger, journal entries, bank and credit card reconciliations, and COLTAF and Operating account balances.
  • Process all vendor invoices, transactions and expenses accurately and efficiently
  • Manage all accounts payable and coordinate with vendors as needed.
  • Manage employee expense reimbursements.
  • Work with partners to review, finalize and submit monthly client invoices using firm billing software (Clio) and other client-specific billing platforms (Legal Tracker, Wolters Kluwer, CounselLink).
  • Assist with collection efforts, including regular communication with clients regarding overdue and unpaid invoices.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures and internal controls to safeguard firm assets.
  • Work closely with firm management to identify areas for financial improvement and cost reduction.
  • Assist in strategic planning and long-term financial forecasting.
  • Work with the firm’s tax accountant to prepare the firm’s tax filings and statements.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Clio legal billing software is preferred.
  • Prior law firm accounting experience.
  • Experience with client billing platforms like Legal Tracker, Wolters Kluwer or CounselLink.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field a plus.

Job Type: Full-time, exempt. This position is based in our Denver office and is not suitable for candidates seeking full-time remote work. During the first 6 months of employment, the role requires full-time in-office presence. After this period, remote work options may be evaluated and considered based on performance and business needs.

Salary: $90,000-$125,000 annually, depending on skills and experience.
